Madison WI. Hotel Near Middleton’s Big Event




Kick off your summer by going to Middleton’s Big Event and staying at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Madison, WI. Middleton’s Big Event is coming on June 19, 2010!

Go on a shopping spree! There will be a GIANT great deals at stores on the sidewalks of Middleton! Take a FREE ride on Lake Mendota through Betty Lou Boat Rides. Take a helicopter ride and see aerial views of Middleton. Take the kids to see a fire truck display (and to take a ride on one!) or to play at Splash Park. Listen to live music at many of Middleton’s great locations like Club Tavern and Ruth Chris Steak House. A $5 wristband gets you into all the great music events!

Participate in Middleton’s Big Walk to raise money for Middleton’s Trail System. The walk begins on Saturday, June 19th at 9a.m. with t-shirts handed out at 8:30 a.m. The entire walk is 5.5 miles but participants can walk as much or as little as they’d like. You can also walk with your doggie at the 2K dog walk run by Dawg Dayz Doggie Daycare.

Sample great foods! Many of the areas restaurants will be offering delicious samples of food. There will be chains like Applebees and Starbucks and also places unique to the area like Clausen’s Bakery, K-Peppers, and Bean Sprouts. Enjoy Turtle Sundaes, spicy shrimp, Irish Stew, Mini Mooseburgers, Stramboli, and many more appetizing foods.

In between the days festivities, head back to your comfortable hotel room for a nice and refreshing nap! Then head back out for the awesome fireworks display at 9:30p.m.with kids activities for the kids starting at 7:30.

Madison WI. Hotel Near Cave of the Mounds


Come visit the Natural National Landmark, Cave of the Mounds, and stay at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel in Madison, WI. Formed over a million years ago and open as a park since 1940, Cave of the Mounds offers a fascinating and educational experience. Visitors can see many stalagmites, stalactites, and other formations in the cave. The cave is made of limestone and goes as deep as 70 feet below the surface in places. The cave is a crisp, cool 50 degrees year round. Tickets are only $15 per adult and $7.50 per child.

In addition to the fascinating cave and cave tour, there are many activities to do above ground as well. There are trails that you can walk or bike. The Karst View Trail has great views and sinkholes to see! The Oak Valley Loop is a savanna woodland that has all kinds of beautiful habitats to view. The Rocks & Rains Gardens are another great attraction to see with its native plants.

Bringing the kids? Check out the Discovery Center or dig for fossils. Ebeneezer Bringham’s (the man who lived above the cave) old barn has been transformed into the Discovery Center which has fossils and cave formations to view. Go to the mining sluice and discover all the gems and fossils. Take something home from your trip when you stop by the gift shop on your way to back to the Howard Johnson Plaza.
