Apple Pie: Symbols of Americana is a permanent exhibition at the museum. It features different works of art that reflect symbols of American life through photographs, paintings, and objects. There are cowboys and cowgirls, hamburger joints, grandma’s kitchen, corn fields, and many other artworks that reflect the many changes America has gone through in its existence from travel out West to the Harlem Renaissance and many more.
Cage and Cunningham: Chance, Time, and Concept in Visual Arts is an exhibition that captures the inspiration of lives of Merce Cunningham and John Cage. Together they pioneered a way for artists today when they brought in non-western philosophy into their blend of dance, music, poetry, and visual art.

The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art also has programs for children too. In the children’s program, families make art projects together that are inspired by the current exhibitions at the museum. These are offered every second Sunday of the Month from September until May.
