Stoughton Victorian Holiday Weekend Hotel




This year, start the holiday season off with a festive and fun weekend at the Stoughton Victorian Holiday Weekend while staying at the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel.

Friday, December 3rd
Start the weekend off with a tree lighting ceremony by the town fire station. At the ceremony you will be entertained by the wonderful the Stoughton High School Madrigal Singers. Finish your night out at the Victorian Holiday Party at the town’s performing arts center. At the party, join in some 19th century dancing. There will even be lessons available! Saturday, December 4th
On Saturday there will be all kinds of events to attend. Don’t miss the Nutcracker with two showings on Saturday at 1:30 and 7:30p.m.! All the while you will see people dressed in 19th century costumes. As you travel to all these great events, take a ride on the trolley, which is FREE today!

Sunday, December 5th
On Sunday all the action continues. Today is a very active day with a 5K Run/Walk and a Bed Race! Everyone is a winner at the 5k Run/walk. All participants receive a souvenir hat and refreshments. Awards will also be given out for top runners and for best dressed runners. The Bed Race begins at 11:30a.m. sharp. Competitors are in teams of 5, with one person on the bed and four pushing the bed. Decorate a bed, put on your nightcaps, and get your bed race on! Awards will be given to the winning racing team and the best dressed team.

In addition to these two action packed events, there will also be a historical driving tour, a performance by the Stoughton Norwegian Dancers, a holiday party and lunch with Santa, and more arts and craft fairs.

Friday:

Lectures will begin at 10:00a.m. and continue through 4:00p.m. Lectures include: Financial Success, Study Abroad Programs, Go Big Read, Career Services, Student Involvement Activities, The Science of Drinking, and Second Year Housing. At 2:00-3:00p.m. there will be time to take photos with Bucky Badger. At 4:00p.m. the Chancellor will host a Q&A time with a panel of staff. The day will conclude with a parent reception from 5:00-6:00p.m. There are also optional activities for an additional fee including a hockey game, art tour, and/or singing concert.

Saturday:
Saturday begins with an 8:30a.m. pre-game activities at the UW Field House with food, music, Bucky the Badger, and fun! The Wisconsin v. Indiana football game begins at 11:00a.m.at Camp Randall Stadium. After the conclusion of the game, the fifth quarter begins. During that time, enjoy the entertainment of the UW Marching Band. Saturday’s optional activities are Farmer’s Market and Capitol Tour, art tour, a hockey game, and/or a singing concert.

Sunday:
Sunday’s big event is an awesome event for charity. The WASB’s Bare it All for Charity 5K Run/Walk begins at 11:00a.m Bring gently used clothing to donate and run/walk across the campus. All clothing will go to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. In addition to the run/walk, there will also be a photo booth set up from 10:00a.m. to 12:00p.m. for last minute photo opportunities for you and your freshman.

Hotel Near World Dairy Expo

Tickets are $8 per person per day (parking included) or $25 per person for a season pass. This event is the international meeting place for anyone involved in the dairy industry.

There will be tons of activities throughout the week. There will be virtual farm tours, seminars, competitions, and international shows. There will also be eight free seminars during the expo that will cover such topics as methane digesters and new management technologies. Continuing education credits can be earned for some of these great seminars!

In addition, there are great contests to enter. 4-H members can enter contests or a quiz bowl. FFA is hosting contests as well with dairy products judging, dairy cattle judging, Forage Management Cup and Showmanship Competition. There will be post-secondary and intercollegiate cattle judging competition as well.

Hotel Near Ford Ironman Wisconsin Race


The Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel is the place to stay when participating in the 2010 Ford Ironman Wisconsin Race in Madison WI. This year’s race will be on September 12th, beginning at 7:00 a.m. The race will start with a 2.4 mile swim in Lake Monona. Click here to see the swim map. The two-loop, 112 mile bike course will then begin. Finally, the 26.2 mile run will finish out the race.

Festivities for the Ford Ironman Wisconsin Race will begin Thursday, September 9th continuing through Monday, September 13th. Thursday there will be an Ironman Expo and Athlete Check-in. Friday will continue with the Ironman Expo and check-in and also have a mandatory athlete meeting at 7:30 p.m. that night.

Saturday is Kid’s Fun Day! Kid’s Fun Day is a great way for kids to get involved with all the fun! There will be a kid’s fun run at 8:30 Saturday morning around Capital Square with a celebration to follow at about 9:30a.m. Each child will receive a medal and t-shirt for participating in the race. The rest of the morning will be filled with kid friendly activities on the rooftop of Monona Terrace. The run is open to any child under the age of 18 and the kid friendly activities are open to everyone! After enjoying Kid’s Fun Day activities head back to the Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel for a relaxing swim in our pool, the largest indoor pool in Madison.

Hotel Near Madison, WI. Henry Vilas Zoo




The Howard Johnson Plaza Hotel is the place to stay when visiting the Henry Vilas Zoo in Madison, WI. The 28 acre zoo is open from 9:30a.m. to 5p.m. each day and has FREE admission!

This fantastic zoo was started as a free public park in 1904. The Vilas family gifted the city land and money for improvements to the park. The park was later named for the Vilas’s son, Henry, who died at a young age. Finally, in 1911 animal exhibits became part of the park. The first animals to come to the zoo were whitetail deer, followed by bears in 1913. Over time, more and more exhibits were created and the admission remained free.

Today the zoo has an enormous amount of exhibits. There are monkeys, lemurs, grizzly bears, alpacas, seals, bison, Gila monsters, anacondas, poison arrow frogs, and piranhas. In children’s zoo exhibit there are wallabies, red pandas, goats, porcupines, and meekrats. In addition to all the awesome exhibits, make sure to check out the discovery center and herpetarium.

The zoo also has some great events like a special Halloween event and the polar bear paddle.

You can also walk with your doggie at the 2K dog walk run by Dawg Dayz Doggie Daycare.

There will be chains like Applebees and Starbucks and also places unique to the area like Clausen’s Bakery, K-Peppers, and Bean Sprouts. Formed over a million years ago and open as a park since 1940, Cave of the Mounds offers a fascinating and educational experience. Visitors can see many stalagmites, stalactites, and other formations in the cave. The cave is made of limestone and goes as deep as 70 feet below the surface in places. Cage and Cunningham: Chance, Time, and Concept in Visual Arts is an exhibition that captures the inspiration of lives of Merce Cunningham and John Cage. Cunningham was a choreographer and John Cage his partner. Together they pioneered a way for artists today when they brought in non-western philosophy into their blend of dance, music, poetry, and visual art.

From Nature: Realist Works is also a permanent exhibition at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. It contains many different major styles of modern art, combining realism with modern art. Some artists in this compilation include: Thomas Hart Benton, Sylvia Plimack Mangold, Henri Matisse, and Andrew Wyeth.

The Madison Museum of Contemporary Art also has programs for children too. In the children’s program, families make art projects together that are inspired by the current exhibitions at the museum. These are offered every second Sunday of the Month from September until May.

Madison Wisconsin Hotel Near WIAA Boys and Girls High School State Basketball Tournaments at the Kohl Center
